Robert Cart

Hailed as “performing with a thrilling abandon,” Robert Cart is flutist with Philadelphia’s Network for New Music. He is an international soloist and chamber musician who has performed throughout Europe, Asia, and the Americas.

He has worked with such luminaries as Berstein, Leppard, and Zinman, and has performed at the Tanglewood, Ravello, Wolftrap, and Aldeburgh festivals.

As soloist, he has performed at The Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, and Lincoln Center. He has premiered more than 50 works by modern composers, including Jennifer Higdon, Gary Schocker, Sergi Casanelles and others, at Carnegie Hall, The American Cathedral (Paris), and the Philadelphia Ethical Society.

As a chamber musician, he is the founding flutist of the Marrazza-Cart flute and piano duo, Éxi Chéria, a flute, viola, and cello trio. During summers, Robert teaches at the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Michigan. He has served on the faculty of the Atlantic Music Festival, where he performed in and coordinated the Contemporary Music Ensemble.

He currently serves as Executive Director of the Marcel Moyse Society. He is a member of the National Flute Association’s New Music Advisory Committee and the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee of the Washington Flute Society.

As a Powell Flutes Artist, he presents master classes and adjudicates worldwide. He holds the degrees of Master of Music (Indiana University Jacobs School of Music), and the Doctor of Musical Arts (University of Maryland College Park).

Among his flute instructors were Peter Lloyd, Gary Schocker, James Pellerite, and Francis Fuge. Dr. Cart is active as an academic leader, and he has served as school of music director and college dean for 15 years, and as professor of flute for over twenty-five years.

Robert plays a vintage flute made in 1938 by Verne Q. Powell for Joseph LaMonaca, Associate Principal Flute of the Philadelphia Orchestra.
