The mission of the Sacramento Flute Club is to expand the art of playing the flute for the greater Sacramento music community through cooperative education and ensemble experiences for all ages and abilities.
The Camellia City Flute Choir, under the direction of Marty Melicharak, is celebrating 20 years of music, and they want you to help them mark the occasion!
The concert is Sunday, October 20th at 3pm in the chapel of the Fair Oaks Presbyterian Church, 11427 Fair Oaks Blvd.
This large flute ensemble is composed of piccolo, flute, alto flute, bass flute, and contrabass flute, giving it a unique sound. The group was the first adult flute choir established in the Sacramento area, and has premiered several new works for flute choir, including many arrangements by Melicharak.
The Camellia City Flute Choir has performed at several annual NFA conventions around the United States, the Crocker Art Museum Classical Concert Series, the Music at Noon Concert Series at Westminster Presbyterian Church, and at the Capitol Rotunda Holiday Concert Series.
The program will include arrangements of familiar tunes such as Amazing Grace and Somewhere Over the Rainbow, an arrangement by Melicharak of Mozart's Grand Serenade for Winds, and a new work written for the Camellia City Flute Choir by jazz flutist Ali Ryerson.
Members of the audience are invited to bring their flutes and join the choir for a performance of Pie Jesu from Faure's Requiem!
And be sure to stick around for a reception immediately following the concert!
